Hello Eric,

Just thought you would like to know that your Rod Moag, W5NDS is a QCWA Life Member.

In your interview he mentioned that the first amateur radio station
he heard was that of Fred Hammond, VE3HC. What a good memory he has!!

This is the famous amateur radio operator who started Hammond
Manufacturing https://www.hammfg.com/ from his garage in 1916
https://www.hammfg.com/about. This company is now famous and known world-wide.

Also, I would like to you know that Fred Hammond, VE3HC was a member of QCWA, http://www.qcwa.org/ve3hc-04297-sk.htm and served on the QCWA Board from 1986 to 1990.

http://www.qcwa.org/directors.php

This was a very interesting interview with Rod Moag - W5NDS. I really enjoyed it!

Thanks!

73,

Ken Oelke, VE6AFO

I listened to the amazing life of Rod this morning on my usual commute to work and was really inspired by his journey . What is even more amazing is the he managed to learn and carry out all the technical build/installation projects without sight which I find hard to comprehend as I struggle with most of these tasks with 20/20 vision.

Love the Podcasts

Great interview with a great person. I have had the distinct pleasure of seeing Rod perform live several times as well as meeting him personally through my fathers church here in East Texas. Unfortunately at the time I did not realize he was a ham radio operator and I was not yet an operator myself. Yet another call sign to add to my list of people I would like to catch on the air sometime.

Thanks again for putting out such worthwhile content.

Started as SWL in 50’s. The best was QSL card from YU1GM in Yugoslavia. Built my own Heathkit receiver but had no money or code to get on line. After getting code in army came wife, kids, and career. So now finally on are 2 meters until buying hf Transceiver in near future. Am excited to start dxing soon

I've known Rod since his time in Ann Arbor, and I'd like to add an anecdote about that antenna tower he had on the roof of his 14-story apartment building. (A picture is in this Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huron_Towers)

A group of us were on the roof with Rod working on his antennas. I was probably around sunset when we finished and went down to Rod's apartment for some pizza. After a while, we realized that we hadn't brought all of our tools down from the roof. Rod said, "I'll go get them. It's dark out now and you guys won't be able see."

And sure enough, Rod went up on the roof alone, found the tools and brought them back.
