We are at War!  - Eric Guth 4Z1uG

My listeners know that I live and work in Israel and have for the last 23 years.  I will use this blog as my accounting of what is happening here.

Israel was attacked at 6:30 AM on Saturday morning.  When I was walking the dog, I heard what I thought was thunder.  The clouds were clearing and it became apparent that these were artillery sounds.  We know now that beginning at 6:30, Hamas in Gaza began launching over 3000 rockets into the south of Israel as cover for a land invasion of the local Israeli communities just on the other side of the Gaza/Israeli border fence.  Last night hundreds of rockets were launched from Gaza into Israel to the North towards Ashkelon and Tel Aviv.  Ben Gurion Airport is open, but only Israeli airlines are flying in and out.
Picture
The air raid sirens in Efrat, in the Judean Hills south of Jerusalem went off 3 times Saturday morning.  We have shelters in our homes and went there as the alarms sounded interrupting Sabbath and holiday prayers.  We could see the Iron Dome interceptor missile trails that knocked out Hamas rockets that would have hit targets in our area.  It was reported that about 300 rockets landed in our area, none hitting their mark.

Because it was the Sabbath and Simhat Torah, on Saturday, the last joyous holiday of the season, Karen and I did not have our phones on.  It was only after the holiday ended, Saturday night, that we learned that Hamas terrorists had captured over 100 men, women, elderly, and children from the border communities and taken them as captives into Gaza.  Our troops were not ready for this invasion, all of our "children '', friends, and neighbours are called into active army duty, and we are doing what we can to support this effort with blood, food, clothing, and other donations to these troops as they prepare to respond.  There will be obvious political repercussions when this war is ended.  For now we are all together, regardless of how we feel about the issues that seem to divide people these days.

At this point, we count 700 dead from the initial incursion by Gaza jihadists including 250 kids, sleeping in tents, attending a music festival near the border.  Israeli troops are still finding families in their homes, murdered in their kitchens, bedrooms, and backyards.  The majority of the terrorists that crossed the border were not carrying supplies like water or body armor, expecting to kill as many Jews as possible and dying as “Shaheeds”, or sacrifices in the name of their brand of radical Islam, at the hands of Israeli troops.

My city of Efrat has already lost one of our sons in service to his country.

While we are out of harm's way for now, in Efrat, we are surrounded by Arab villages, whose children have been radicalized by Palestinian Authority “education” that glorifies death at the hands of Israeli forces knowing that their families will be taken care of from US and EU stipends to the Palestinian Authority for killing Jews.  Our security is on high alert around all of our cities.  Our schools and many of our businesses are closed to allow the citizens to be close to shelters if the rocket attacks resume.  One of the companies that I support has sent 6 of their engineers to the Gaza border as infantry soldiers.

This is a war, maybe even worse than the 73 Yom Kippur war.  This is not a war over land, it is a war of ideology, radical Islam against the West.  Iran and its proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah, say it outloud that their goal is to destroy Israel as a step towards conquering the West.

Eric and fellow amateur radio operators:

I am going to quote the last paragraph in Eric's blog since it succinctly ties together the concept that all radical goals in the world today aim to stamp out democracy. I'm a Jew, but as Eric alludes, hatred and extermination can be directed at any minority or majority group.

"This is a war, maybe even worse than the 73 Yom Kippur war. This is not a war over land, it is a war of ideology, radical Islam against the West. Iran and its proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah, say it out loud that their goal is to destroy Israel as a step towards conquering the West."

As members of the worldwide amateur community, think about this: Erasing democracy will effectively end our hobby as we know it and, add the collateral damage of ending al the societal "give backs" that amateur radio has to offer.

Saying this to Eric and all who read this. What can we do to help?

Are you saying that the US and EU are paying the PA to kill Jewish people? If so, please provide proof of the accusation and details.

The USA just released $6 Billion in funds to the Iranian regime that funds Hamas and Hezbollah. According to some "experts" this was a signal of US weakness in the region and giving a green light to this latest terrorist operation.

The Palestinian Authority Martyrs Fund, also called “Pay for Slay”, pays monthly cash stipends to the families of Arabs killed, injured, or imprisoned for murdering Jews. The more grisley, the more dead, the greater the monthly cash installments. Bonuses are paid to Israeli Arabs and Arab Jerusalem residents. The Palestinian Authority, itself spends almost $300 million annually to fund these “martyrs”, about 8% of its annual budget, and has 500 “PA civil servants” employed to manage the program. Under the Taylor Force Act, the USA ceased to fund the PA when it was signed into law on March 23, 2018. On July 15, 2022, the Biden Administration pledged to restore $316 Million in annual aid to the PA. The Martyrs Fund is the top spending priority for the PA.

EU and US funding of the United Nations Work and Relief Agency (UNWRA) allows UNWRA to use their schools in Gaza as Hamas rocket launch sites and weapons storage, using the children as human shields.

The EU spends tens of millions of Euros every year to fund NGOs in Israel that undermine Israeli security and help to educate Arab children to hate Israel and seek a martyrs death.

Hamas and PA television and radio glorify death and martyrdom to their children. From Palestinian Media Watch: https://youtu.be/f3-zENpAF-U

I feel deep sympathy for the children. I pray that the settler children be safely secured within the borders of Israel.

As to the adult settlers, they are breaking the law, they are abusing the Palestinians, and now they are getting back precisely what they've always been asking for. May their orphaned children find loving new homes with more responsible adults.

Finn - I posted your comment as a sample of the tripe that I read often by people that have little understanding of the history in this region. As a settler adult myself - although according to the Hamas Charter, the Jews in Tel Aviv are also settlers, you would advocate the murder of all of Jewish adults in Israel. As the prophet says, "nothing new under the Sun".

The Jewish parents that you refer to, deserving of death, lived in communities that were in Israel proper and not the West Bank. These communities are older than the State itself. Many of their inhabitants left leaning and unarmed.

The Palestinian Authority has been autonomous since the 1993 Oslo Accords that created it. They have taken over a trillion dollars in funding from the West since that time and have managed to create nothing - no hospitals, universities, high tech businesses, industry for its residents. Instead their leaders beginning with Arafat himself raided the coffers and sent millions of dollars abroad.

I live here, Finn. I meet more Arabs in a single day than you will in a lifetime. They serve on our Supreme Court, doctors and nurses in our hospitals, and work in just about every occupation in Israel. The Arabs under Palestinian Authority rule are abused by their own government, funded and propped up by the West.
