Episode 077 - David Cripe - NM0S

Picture
Radio kit design for the Four State QRP Group is one of the passions of Dave Cripe, NM0S.  As a amateur  radio generalist, with a strong discipline and technical background, Dave enjoys a wide range of operating modes and power levels, and home-brewing in addition to mentoring prospective hams through the Boys Scouts of America. NM0S is Eric, 4Z1UG’s guest on QSO Today.

Dave's call, NM0S, immediately caught my attention. I thought to myself that Dave's background must have involved N-channel Metal Oxide Semiconductor (NMOS) transistors. Sure enough while listening to Dave's interview this was the reason he requested NM0S.

My professional background is in semiconductor technology. At the time I started my career in 1974, NMOS was the latest type of transistor used in microelectronic chips. NMOS had replaced PMOS because of its superior performance. CMOS wasn't yet mainstream.

Dave is one rare bread of Elmers in the hobby. If you ever get a chance to meet Dave at one of the QRP or hamfest events you will enjoy every second of Dave's company. His forums are a huge hit on a broad range of attendees. My wife still has the Zombie bug out bag she won at Ozarkcon in the trunk of her car. Thanks Dave! :-)

Thanks Eric - and thank you David. Great interview with a very community-minded gentleman who has contributed a great deal to our hobby. To me, building gear is an important part of the pursuit, so I value the contributions of hams like David greatly.
